In a bid to revolutionize the landscape of national field hockey, a bold step has been taken with the appointment of ex-national player Sarjit Singh as the new national field hockey coach. Crucially, the plan advocates for a departure from the traditional reliance on sports schools as the sole breeding ground for elite players. Instead, each state will be encouraged to establish alternative pathways for talent identification and development. By decentralizing talent recruitment and fostering a culture of inclusivity, the aim is to unearth hidden gems and maximize the country's hockey potential. Drawing inspiration from successful models like the German team, whose Junior World Cup triumph was fueled by a grassroots approach, the focus will be on cultivating a nationwide network of hockey enthusiasts. Every club, school, and community will play a vital role in nurturing talent and fostering a love for the sport.
