LEVERAGING KEY PLAYERS AND COACHING STYLES IN MALAYSIAN HOCKEY

Every successful team, whether in football, rugby, or field hockey, is built around key players, with each coach bringing their unique approach, strategy, techniques, and style to the game. These elements are tailored based on the pool of players available and their individual strengths. With the appointment of Sarjit Singh, renowned for his flair and success with Terengganu, there's an opportunity to infuse the Malaysian hockey scene with a new level of dynamism. Sarjit's track record of transforming underdog teams into title contenders and his ability to mentor and develop players make him a valuable asset. Sarjit's own playing days, marked by achievements and accolades such as being voted into the all-star team, exemplify his deep understanding of the game and its nuances. Did you see how YNS under his captain ship and style of play dominated the Malaysian Hockey League then ! Some of you would be asking What? When? Who is YNS? Before we critic others please be on par and know the game well, understand the sport has evolved. The equipment’s has changed. The speed is much faster then even 2 years ago or 10. I have personally seen him turn around some players to great players locally and internationally from the game change, to mind set and also approach in tactical. Hailing from the small town of Batu Pahat, Johor, his journey resonates with many aspiring athletes across Malaysia. By studying the coaching methodologies of powerhouse teams like Holland, Germany, Australia, the United Kingdom, Pakistan, and India, we can observe how coaches build their teams around key technical players, game-changers, and those who control the flow of the game. Football Great Team This approach has been evident in both field hockey and football, from iconic clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool to national teams  Brazil 1970 (Jairzinho, Rivelino and Pele.)  Brazil 1998 & 2022 (Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Kaka),  Brazil 1982 (Zico, Sokrates, Falcao, Cerezo und Junior)  Spain 2010 (Gerard Pique, Andres Iniesta, David Villa, Fernando Torres, Cesc Fabregas),  France 1986 (Michel Platini, Jean Tigana, Jean-Pierre Papin). Field Hockey  Holland (Teun de Nooijer, Robert van der Horst, Jeroen Hertzberger, Xan de Waard, Ties Kruize, Floris Jan Bovelander)  Germany (Moritz F, ürste, Markus Weise, Mats Grambusch, Lukas Windfeder, Timm Herzbruch, Timur Oruz, Florian Kunz),  Belgium (John-John Dohmen)  Australia (Jamie Dwyer, Eddie Ockenden, Rick Charlesworth)  India (Dhanraj Pillay, Leslie Walter Claudius, Udham Singh, Dhyan Chand , Sardar Singh, Mohammad Shahid, Balbir Singh Sr.)  Pakistan (Sohail Abbas, Muhammad Shahbaz) So who would be our key players? How would this team be formed? That’s how the tactical approach a coach and his team of coaches would need to work upon. They need space to evaluate and also develop this and also look at time frame, games, matches to be played to evaluate each detail of this players and how best they can come into a team. While critiques may arise, it's important to recognize that Sarjit has a vision and plan for Malaysian hockey. What he needs now is the support and resources to execute his strategies effectively. This expanded version highlights the significance of key players and coaching styles in Malaysian hockey, drawing parallels with successful teams and coaches from around the world. There was a time when we had many foreign players playing in our national league to uplift the standard of play and also for us to learn form them lots of skills, movements and technical approaches.
